Birds are one of the beautiful creations. They add to the beauty of universe and are a precious species that needs special care. Like many other species, many bird species also near to disappear and have been listed as endangered species. Increasing pollution and many human activities are harmful for birds. There is an urgent need to take steps and actively involved in the activities to save this precious creation.

Even though birds are happy and prefer to live independently. But people use to keep the different kinds to birds in their houses to enhance the beauty and give a natural touch to their houses. Some people are fond of gathering some unique and rare species of birds. Such people take care of these birds more than any other person, because they know their value due to their knowledge about them. They have a great knowledge about these species and always try to find and save them. Although it’s primary duty of government to take steps for the safety of endangered species, The task becomes very easy if everybody recognize this as his/her personal duty to avoid the activities that are harmful for the wild life, and work actively for their safety.

Besides the love for birds and interest of gathering precious species of birds, there are also kinds of people who love to hunt the birds. This is very condemned act and should be prohibited strictly.

The people, who have interest to gather the bird species rare in nature, show their love for them practically. They respect their wish to live independently, and do not keep them in cages to enhance the beauty of their houses. They build safe, protective, and fit to environment houses for them.

Mostly these are wooden houses and easy to build even you can build it at home with some simple tools and some wood. Just review simple woodworking plans. In its simplest form, a bird house is a wooden box with a hole in one side. If you are going to build it for a sparrow, a small house will be enough and you can place it on any tree in your yard. It will automatically attract the sparrow. And it will definitely like it. This small house will be best place for nesting and feeding for birds and bird lovers will have a chance to closely observe them.

It will be a good idea to observe the most common species of your area and plan to build a house for them. You can place in your yard or use as indoor piece that will compliment your home décor. But if you want the house to be friendly and safe for your feathered friends, it will be wise decision to place it I the natural environment, may be in your yard. To identify most common birds in your area, you can simply observe them or use a guide book. If you want to keep it as indoor enhancement, you can add colors and paint it to give it an attractive look. It can also be a low cost gift for any occasion. Some tips will be useful to follow here;

Select the wood carefully, avoid the wood that has been painted, redwood and cedar are the best choice. They provide natural waterproofing. If you want to place it outside home keep in mind to use crylic paint that is weather resistant. Also remember that water based glue is not appropriate, instead of that, use glue gun or water resistant glue like E-6000.

Safety should be first priority when you are planning a bird house. You should consider the danger of predators in bird house design. It will be a good idea to place a metal plate over the entrance hole. It will prevent the birds such as woodpeckers from enlarging the holes.

Place the bird house on wall or use hinged roof, it will b convenient to keep the bird house clean. Make sure the security of bird house when you plan to place it on hinged wall, using a hook, a temporary nail or eye latch will be a good choice.

Inside structure of bird house also important to be competent with the nature of birds. Insert proper ventilation in the bird house design, keep the inside surface of house rough to make it easier for baby birds to move inside the house.
